IABM member PBT EU reveals revenue-boosting solutions at NAB 2019
PBT EU’s vast range of customized Playout solutions with Subtitling platforms opens Localization opportunities for Broadcasters, Content Owners and LSPs
8 – 11 April – NAB 2019, Las Vegas Convention Centre, Las Vegas, Nevada, US
IABM member PBT EU’s Managing Partner and Sales Director, Alexander Stoyanov will be attending NAB again this year in Las Vegas. Apart from meeting with customers and partners at the show, plans to explore current needs, projects implementations, finding strategies to help professionals adapt to the industry’s arising challenges will be on the agenda, as well as keeping abreast of technological trends.
After successive growth, PBT EU continues to provide a wide range of advanced end-to-end turnkey playout solutions including their own EXEcutor™ brand of broadcast servers using PlayBox NEO technologies. Furthermore, PBT EU’s EXEcutor™ Media Integrator module serves as an essential extension expanding the “Channel-In-A-Box” bundle, making it future-ready and highly adaptable for all production environments.
In addition to PBT EU’s renown and proven broadcast solutions, already widely adopted by broadcasters across Europe, the company also offers its popular line of subtitling revenue-boosting timed-text products – SubtitleNEXT™ and NEXT-TT™ that have taken off in leaps and bounds over the past year. Fortunately, expedient systems like PBT EU’s timed-text services incorporate customer-driven development and allow for integration into collaborative systems within broadcast workflows. PBT EU’s platforms support all media from streaming, custom-protected content for multipurpose services, graphics for television, cinema, web, customisable UIs and more.
NEXT-TT launched last NAB and combines captioning/subtitling software SubtitleNEXT with business processing system LAPIS. This unique hybrid design gives users greater freedom of choice on the desktop and in the Cloud. It enables efficient generation, at blistering speed, of timed-text, dubbing and localization services of all content imaginable. It can be used to manage teams of translators, audio-visual professionals, and creative freelancers, and provides a secure workspace with toolsets that deliver reliable high-quality results. “We want to make broadcasters aware that they could be using subtitles to reach a much wider audience and extend their services to make them more accessible to a larger customer-base. In parallel, they can facilitate content and localization providers in their pursuit of faster and more efficient delivery of material to the distribution networks. Both are consumer driven industries after all.” Alexander notes.
Subtitling is advantageous for broadcasters’ audiences. Timed-text software is a much wider investment and not restricted to subtitling functions alone. Many of the technological innovations in subtitling have come through modules that now support universal subtitle format transcoding and real-time live content. SubtitleNEXT and NEXT-TT provide immense added value to PBT EU’s existing range of broadcast services, for an industry in a rapid state of transition.
“I will be here to represent PBT EU and engage with broadcasters, content owners, post-production and production companies, localization organisations and Language Services Professionals at NAB. I am passionate to discuss how PBT EU’s customised broadcast solutions enhance facilities with viable end-to-end solutions. Subtitling and content accessibility tools, and how NEXT-TT and SubtitleNEXT can help businesses shift a gear, especially with significant product developments introduced this past year, will also be an exciting topic of discussion.” Alexander confirms.
As people and devices continue to become more inter-connected, professionally and socially, subtitles or timed-text services have become a valuable commodity. Following recent government legislation enforcing delivery of subtitling services to linear TV, OTT and online channels, broadcasters are under pressure to migrate to efficient, affordable timed-text systems. Recent research also indicates many people view video without sound, whether on phones, laptops, iPads or other screens, often outnumbering traditional television viewers. This trend calls for further subtitling especially among younger generations where it can serve to pull community groups together.
On the post-production side, most editing software still contains fairly basic subtitling functions and is inefficient for editors to take on subtitling roles alongside editing. Running standalone subtitling platforms, specialized in the full process, produces better time-saving results. Like most aspects of broadcasting, deadlines, multiple versioning and last-minute corrections govern timed-texts, therefore, complex assignments need straightforward, automated, fast handling.
Live events are another niche market where timed-text services are showing potential. Live production will continue growing to a standalone industry due to the particularities and specific challenges it represents – an emerging market that the SubtitleNEXT team have already planned ahead for.
SubtitleNEXT and NEXT-TT have already caught the eye of many European higher education institutions such as colleges, universities and The European School of Translation, incorporating them as part of their curricula. Even the Benelux region’s largest production company Videohouse has adopted SubtitleNEXT. Recently SubtitleNEXT was branded official Silver sponsor product of The Languages and the Media Berlin Conference including the upcoming Media for All International Conference in Stockholm, alongside major industry players such as Netflix, OOONA and Lingsoft. A dedicated member site NEXTClub connecting user groups globally, offers an online gathering space, freely accessible to everyone who registers. Exciting zones to explore in the NEXTClub lounge include NEXTblog, NEXTnews, NEXTtips, NEXTacademy, NEXTcommunity and NEXTmembership which can be accessed at https://subtitlenext.com/club/

About SubtitleNEXT – SubtitleNEXT is a flexible platform for the creation of timed text for all recorded, streamed, and live media. It has been adopted by many universities, associations and companies such as Videohouse, the largest production company in the Benelux region. Compatible with every major subtitle format, including closed-caption, exports for digital cinema projection and DVD, as well as burning in subtitles to video files up to 16K resolution, it performs all text-related tasks such as translating, spotting, transcoding, and QC. SubtitleNEXT may work directly with different storage schemes, securities, and protections, to satisfy all possible current and future requirements. Cloud systems only offer one scheme with material in a shared space which is something some clients don’t necessarily want or allow. Modules or the entire SubtitleNEXT range can be purchased, with a pilot demo of SubtitleNEXT available for download. at Profuz Digital’s e-shop – https://shop.profuzdigital.com
